Jonathan Jonathon - Consultant

Q: Why did you pick Lenati coming out of business school?

A: I knew I was interested in consulting, and when I first connected with Lenati in 2007, I found both its culture and its areas of focus resonated with me. Everyone I met was very curious and very bright, and I liked that it was a friendly, humor appreciating group.

Q: You were recently promoted to Manager. Why have you been able to grow at Lenati?

A: I have had the flexibility to craft my own story. Since the beginning, I have known that I had the chance to shape where the firm is going. I love that I haven’t been boxed in to simple, cookie-cutter work; much to the contrary, I’ve had a lot of variability and interesting challenges in my projects. I’ve had great opportunities to flex my consulting muscles, demonstrate my ability to think critically, and gain the satisfaction of pleasing our clients. The journey continues to get a lot more interesting and exciting as we continue to grow.

Q: How has Lenati provided support to help you grow to where you are today?

A: Having direct access to the folks that manage and run the firm has been essential. From their coaching and feedback over the past few years I’ve gotten a lot of help shaping my goals and path forward. It’s not overly formalized and systematic, but there are resources and templates that I’ve used from the very beginning. Along with the frameworks and slide decks, I’ve been able to sit down with the founding partners to learn how to manage projects and teams from the best.

Q: What are some common misconceptions that you have encountered over the years about consulting?

A: A common misconception from those coming in from a non-consulting background is that consulting work will fit neatly into a box. The thinking is, this is a marketing project, so I will only be doing marketing. What I find again and again is that the projects tend to spill out of their functional area and involve different domains of expertise. I came in thinking I’d be working within the marketing frameworks that I have learned, but I’ve worked on so much more which has given me the opportunity to constantly learn and grow.

Q: How do you describe what Lenati is about?

A: When I’m talking to someone who doesn’t know about Lenati, I describe it as a small consulting firm based in Seattle that feels like a family. A phrase that I end up using a lot to describe my experience here is that every day I’m given the chance to get my fingerprints all over the firm. This opportunity to make a substantive impact on my place of work, I feel, is unique when compared to other consulting firms.
