Michael Kennedy Michael - Consultant

Q: How would you describe a great potential employee?

A: I think somebody that can make a good consultant is flexible, adept at change, has the personality for interpersonal relationships and kind of has a bit of a thick skin. These pieces are super necessary. If you’re able to engage them on a personal level and advise and help it gets you past the veneer of “I’m a consultant, you’re a client” attitude which can be a common starting point. If you’re an individual who is super structured who wants things to go sequentially, it’s going to be challenging. We always try to lay it out that way, but every project starts with a defined problem that we solve but opens up into many more issues that need to be addressed.  You have to be really flexible, creative and have a personality to connect with people.

Q: What do you like about Lenati?

A: The first thing would be the people. The other thing is the work. You always have challenging problems you can really sink your teeth into. Having the high caliber of people and high caliber type of project, for me, is very satisfying.

Q: What is your working style at Lenati?

A: If I’m placed on a project, I get guidance in the beginning from leadership who can challenge my thinking which helps me broaden my perspective. If you compare that management style with one that is more involved, I find I’m pushed more to grow in my skills when the support from leadership is more in the form of guidance and support rather than micro-management.

From a project perspective, it’s great when I can collaborate with team members even though we may be working on separate projects. We can connect over lunch, loosen up and share what’s going on.

Q: How is Lenati perceived?

A: Clients see us as people who work on strategy projects. They bring us in when they want someone to think about how the project will land and make sure there’s improvement over previous efforts. We come in and analyze what went wrong, create an approach and help the client walk them through the solution. It’s not all execution and not all strategy, it’s a bit of both.
